USE INSTRUCTION
BEFORE USE
a) Make sure one is able to use a ladder. Certain medical conditions or medication, alcohol or drug abuse are enough to an unsafe use of the ladder;
b) When the ladder is transported on the roof crossbars or on a truck, make sure everything is properly assembled in order to avoid damages;
c) Inspect the ladder immediately after delivery and before the first use to confirm the conditions and performance of every parts;
d) In the beginning of each day of work make sure the ladder is not damaged, allowing a safe use;
e) Make sure the ladder is appropriate for the task;
f) Do not use a damaged ladder;
g) Remove any contamination from the ladder, such as paint, oil or snow;
h) Before using a ladder on the working place, one must carry out a risk evaluation respecting the legislation on the country of use.
LADDER POSITIONING
a) The ladder must be lifted in the correct position, with the stable correct angle for a tilted ladder (tilt angle approximately 1:4) with the steps available;
b) The blocking dispositive, where it exists, must be completely secured before its use;
c) The ladder must be placed on a flat base, even in solid ground;
d) The ladder must be tilted against a flat surface and it must be protected before use, for example, tied or fixed to a proper stability dispositive;
e) The ladder must never be repositioned from above;
f) While positioning the ladder, one must take into consideration its collision risk, for example, with pedestrians, vehicles or doors;
g) Identify any electric risks on the working place, such as power lines or other exposed electric equipment;
h) The ladder must be lifted on its feet, never on steps;
i) The ladder must not be placed on slippery surfaces (such as ice, shiny surfaces or clearly contaminated). Effective measures must be taken in order to prevent ladder slippage, making sure solid surfaces are clean enough.
DURING THE USE OF THE LADDER
a) Do not exceed the maximum total load for the type of ladder;
b) One must keep both feet on the same step during the whole task;
c) Do not step outside a tilted ladder on a superior level without additional safety material, such as a proper stability dispositive;
d) Do not use the ladder permanently to access another level;
e) Do not stand on the last three top steps of a tilted ladder and do not straddle on the superior part;
f) The ladder must be only used for light works of short duration;
g) Use non-conductive ladder suitable for electric works;
h) Do not use the ladder in adverse climatic conditions, such as strong wind and snow;
i) Take precautions during handling the ladder near children;
j) Protect windows and doors on the working place whenever it is possible (do not obstruct emergency exits);
k) Do not use the ladder as a bridge;
l) Always use suitable footwear for climbing a ladder;
m) Avoid works which involve excessive lateral loads, for example, brick or concrete drilling;
n) Do not stand over the ladder for long periods of time without regular pauses (fatigue is a risk);
o) When used to access a higher level, the ladder must lean and be expanded at least 1 meter above the desired point;
p) While using the ladder one must carry only light and easy handling equipment;
q) While working from above a ladder one must take additional safety precautions.
REPAIR, MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
Repairs must only be done by the producer or qualified people.
Keep the ladder clean from chemical products, mortars or other corrosive products which might affect the ladder construction.
Keep the ladder somewhere away from climatic conditions exposure, such as sun, rain and snow.
USE INSTRUCTIONS FOR LADDERS WITH ROPE
Greater robustness ladders with incorporated rope allow an easier handling. The rope is integrated through a pulley system, which allow its positioning.
- Adjust the height of the ladder before using it. The positioning of the ladders with rope must be done inversely to the conventional ladders. The first flight of steps must face the user, while the second flight must be facing the vertical support surface.
- In order to lift the ladder, pull the rope down and adjust the step to the desired measure. The autoblock hooks of this system will fix on the chosen height, ensuring the ladder stability.
- To resume to the initial position, the rope must be pulled to the user’s direction, allowing the autoblock hooks to open and the sliding of the second flight.
